If you always do what you've always done...

I have many times heard people say that nothing changes despite their effort; that they do something, and it never seems to work! They can often miss the fact that they continue to do the same thing, which unsurprisingly ends with the same result. If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. Our brains quickly learn patterns of behaviour and we can often get caught up in a cycle involving us continuing with a pattern that is not working for us, so we try the same but harder and again get the same result. This is what often holds us back in life. Fortunately, our thinking and behaviours can be changed, we can learn, our brains have plasticity.
