Tomorrow is the start of national carers week, a time to recognise, celebrate and thank all those who provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who needs help as they grow older or who has an illness, disability or mental health issue. You are fabulous!
Caring is massively rewarding; however, carers need to also find time to care for themselves and this can sometimes be a challenge. We must not undervalue the impact of caring on well-being. So, if you know someone who is a carer why not ask them how you can help?
Here are my top tips for carers:
1. Remind yourself each day just what a tremendous job you are doing for those you care for. Because you are!
2. Take time every day to do something just for you, no matter how small – Relax with a cup of tea, listen to a favourite song, go for a walk, paint your nails, no matter what, take that time.
3. Get in touch with friends and family, go out for a coffee, speak on the phone, message. Positive interactions with others make us feel good and boost our well-being.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or support for yourself from others.
So, to all the wonderful people who are carers a big thank you! We are so very proud of you all!
